3 Must-Read Japanese Manga for Beginners

Manga

Introduction

I love Japanese manga as Japanese peason, but it’s often hard for non-Japanese pepole to choose which manga to read because they don’t have much back graund knowledge.

I’m gonna to share a list of three biginner-friendly manga I recommend. They will help you enjoy reading Japanese manga even more.

Top3 Highly Recommended Pieces

Demon Slayer(鬼滅の刃)

Why it’s great for beginners:The story has a clear plot. One day, the main character experiences a tragedy. He face the situation head-on and struggles to overcome it.

What it’s about: The story follows a straightforward boy who fights “Oni” (Japanese demons) to save his sister, who has been turned into an Oni by the orijinal demon, Kibutsuji Muzan.

Why you’ll love it:One interesting point is the keyword “Oni”. Normally, “Oni” means “ogre”, but in this manga, it is closer to the idea of vampire. The authors unique interpretation has attracted many readers in Japan.

Attack on Titan(進撃の巨人 )

Why it’s great for beginners:The artwork in the beginning isn’t very polished, but the story still managed to capture millions of readers. It shows that great art isn’t the only thing that makes a manga compelling—powerful storytelling can draw people in just as much.

What it’s about:The series follows humanity’s desperate fight for survival against giant creatures called Titans. As the story progresses, the characters uncover shocking truths about the world they live in.

Why you’ll love it:This manga explores how humans behave in extreme situations.
It’s full of mysteries and suspense that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.

Chainsaw Man(チェンソーマン)

Why it’s great for beginners: The charactors and the unique story. Most Japanese manga follow certain formulas, but this one fascinates readers by breaking away from convention—or sometimes even playing with it—and freely shaping the story.

What it’s about: A boy who can transform into a “Chainsaw Devil” becomes a devil hunter and longs to be loved by his boss, Makima.

Why you’ll love it: I really love its unpredictable story and fascinating characters.

Conclusion

These three manga are great starting points for anyone new to Japanese comics. I don’t know if these three choices will be your favorites, but I really recommend them!
