1. Introduction
Episode 2 of “Zenshu” continues the mysterious atmosphere established in the first episode. After all, we still know almost nothing. Why is our protagonist Natsuko transported to this world? And why has the world been made a nostalgic anime?
Last time, we were introduced to the protagonist, Natsuko, whose face was almost hidden behind her long hair. Did this unique direction continue in episode 2?
2. Plot Summary
The episode focuses on Natsuko’s reaction upon arriving in another world. Other characters also knew Natsuko had special powers, and Natsuko herself was already aware of them.
But Natsuko hasn’t yet been motivated to save the world. That’s a reasonable reaction for an ordinary person. But on the other hand, she was tired of the real world. ……
3. Key Moments & Highlights
There were a number of interesting points following the first episode.
First, As I noted at the end of episode 1, Natsuko’s face was once again covered by her hair. But this time, not completely. Her face appeared on the screen more often. It was understandable.
We watched her face in the first episode. Her face was no longer interesting to us because we had already seen it. If you wanted to hide her emotions, you would hide her face each time.
I think her face will appear on the screen more often as the episode progress. I believe this will be used to indicate that she is opening her heart to another world.
Second, is it OK for a blond-haired man to say sexist things? I’m Japanese and in Japan of thirty years ago, we often hear that saying like that. But this isn’t appropriate in the modern era. Perhaps, this also aims to make us feel nostalgia.
Third, I’m very curious about that robot, which looks like a clay figure. I couldn’t catch his name, even watching in Japanese, but I think he has no roles. Natsuko takes care of all the commentary that a character like him would normally do. Then, he even seems leading the wrong way with Natsuko or our. Maybe he has some hidden role.
Fourth, the battle scene of this episode was a parody of Macross! That was totally, natto missiles! I wonder why Natsuko came up with natto missiles, but That was a milestone in Japanese animation.
And I laughed at what Natsuko can’t call the same thing. Because she couldn’t use “Bank”, but, this anime use “Bank”, for instance, in Natsuko’s drawing scene. From what I have seen, something I don’t understand, something used in animation, seems to give her that power. Why didn’t the something tell Natsuko that she can’t call the same thing? Also, I can’t catch that something’s name. What should I call that something used in animation?
4. Character Development
After all, Natsuko found the reason to save this world at the end of this episode. Also, she revealed that she wanted to go back to her original world. They seem to indicate her selfish side, but at the same time, Natsuko feels something.
In my opinion, she is a good person and can’t desert someone in need. Moreover, this world is made of her loved anime. They are leading her and this anime to the good end.
5. Overall Impressions & Final Verdict
Episode 2 continues to build on the strong foundation of the first episode. The visual storytelling remains impressive, and the mystery surrounding Natsuko deepens. I’m definitely looking forward to the next episode!
